Summary:

In order to become one of the 21 so called ActiveRegions, in Germany‚Äôs most northern federal state Schleswig-Holstein, and therefore to be able to participate in the EU funded rural development programme (2007 ‚Äì 2013), the Holstein Shire was formed. The new region was established by 61 municipalities with 92.000 inhabitants and covers a rural landscape of 800km¬? in a metropolitan area. Within the LEADER concept a bottom-up approach was tried to be implemented, but how can you encourage people to stand for something that they do not identify with? This question led to the start of the branding process. It is an ongoing process from finding a name for the region up to now where people and small companies are starting to use the new logo and name on their regional products. The presentation shows the example of the Holstein Shire and the steps undertaken to implement a regional brand.
