High bandwidth networks are to regional and rural areas what the railways were to local communities some 100 years ago. The challenge is that this fact is not commonly known, and the lack of political insight is predominant. Only in few places has broadband played a role in the local development, and the lack of bandwidth is becoming still more problematic for the true survival of most regional areas. In this speech, Torben Rune will show a number of cases where the development of a real broadband infrastructure is playing the critical difference between a modern society and a working museum.

So broadband is important, and so are the conditions under which the broadband services are developed. The first signs of challenges having non neutral networks are showing, and the problems must be handled now.
